Westfrisian Libraries

The Westfrisian Libraries Foundation consists of 11 village libraries, spread over a working area of roughly 500 square kilometers. In addition to the traditional lending function for books, they are receiving more and more social assignments. Paula Orme, Communications Coordinator: “Our team is growing rapidly and becoming increasingly diverse. A social intranet helps our colleagues in the branches and our colleagues who travel a lot for programming to stay well informed and to keep in touch with each other. Our previous intranet was far from user-friendly. Through other libraries that have been using Plek for some time, we discovered how well this also fits in with our organization.”

They organized a competition for the name of their new intranet: it became Place2Bieb. Paula continues: “Colleagues appreciated being involved in the run-up to a new intranet, especially the session with Plek. We launched our intranet during the staff day. Everyone received a wonderful fleece blanket with the name of the intranet, because we hope that Place2Bieb feels like a warm blanket over our organization.

After the plenary part, all colleagues could go directly to the Place2Bieb hub to fill their profile and add a photo. As a result, most of the employees were immediately connected. “After that, we as a working group actually had little work to get other colleagues on board. New employees hook up easily because the interface is self-explanatory and because colleagues point it out so enthusiastically.”
